What is the Citizen Academy?
The Citizen Academy serves to increase resident awareness and understanding of the function of the
Blackfoot police department. Participants will learn about topics relative to the role of the police officer
in their community.
During a 5-week academy, residents are instructed on several topics, including crime scene investigation,
firearms, arrest techniques, and several other areas of instruction. Participants must attend 7 of the 9
classes of the two hours class blocks to be eligible for graduation. Academy size will be capped at fifteen
students to ensure safety is the top priority.
Classes are offered Monday and Wednesday nights a week from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. for 5 consecutive
weeks. *Firearms class will be held from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Who can apply?
The Citizen Academy is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who either lives, attends school, or
works in the City of Blackfoot. All applicants will be subjected to a background check.

Application. Complete the application, email it to wwheatley@co.bingham.id.us or turn the application
in to the Police Department at 501 N. Maple, #410 Blackfoot Idaho, 83221.
What is the cost?
Free! The only cost to participants is their time.
